How to get to Leuven
Leuven is situated at the very heart of Europe. There are frequent international flights from Brussels airport, and low-cost flights from Charleroi (Brussels South) airport.
By Plain to Brussels National Airport
Brussels-National airport (http://www.brusselsairport.be/en/) is situated in Zaventem, between Brussels and Leuven, almost along the E40 highway.
By Train from Brussels National Airport to Leuven
Reservation and time tables: (www.b-rail.be). "The Airport City Express" links the airport with Brussels. The train station is located in the basement (level -1) of the airport terminal building itself. Take a train from Brussels-Airport to Brussels-North, then change trains to Leuven. Leuven is an important hub in the Belgian railway network. From Leuven station, there are connections to every other major Belgian train station. From the Brussels station (Leuven - Brussels = 20 minutes of travelling) there are various international connections. Leuven is along the railway lines Brussels-Luik(Liège,Luttich)-Eupen and Brussels-Hasselt-Genk/Tongeren. The Leuven train station is conveniently situated at the edge of the city centre, at the east side ( "B" on the MAP). All buses in and around Leuven stop at the railway station and pass through the city centre. From Brussel-Noord (Bruxelles-Nord), there are at least 3 trains to Leuven each hour. Most trains with final destination Maastricht, Köln, Eupen, Welkenraedt, Hasselt, Landen or Genk have stops in Leuven.
By Car to Leuven or Heverlee from Brussels National Airport
Take the highway E40 Brussels-Liège. Leave the E40 at the exit to highway E314 with directions Leuven/Genk/Hasselt. Keep to the right immediatly, exit the highway E314 and follow the signs Leuven. Turn right before entering the city center, at the ring road around the city center. At the subsequent traffic lights (Naamsepoort), turn right as far as you can into the Kardinaal Mercierlaan (do not take the Naamsesteenweg). Follow this road (with trees at both sides), until you reach the square place "Kantienplein". Be aware, the entrance of the Arenberg Campus is at your right, at the very beginning of the square place ! Drive towards the Castle, downwards, and in front of the castle keep track towards to left, again upwards. The building of the Civil Engineering Department is the first building at you right side again driving away from the castle, Building no. 40 (see also map below).
By plain to Brussels South (Charleroi) Airport
The low-cost flights company "Ryan Air" operates from Charleroi Airport. Brussels South Charleroi Airport is located 46 km from Brussels Central station. A public bus (Line A) links the Brussels South Charleroi Airport to the Charleroi train station. From there you can take the train to Brussels. More than 20 times per day there is a coach shuttle between Brussels South Charleroi and Brussels Midi railway station.
Taxis are available outside the terminal building. The taxi fare between the airport and Brussels is around €80.
Brussels South Charleroi Airport is easily accessible by motorway. (A54 – exit 24). Coming from Liège - Namur: E42 - exit 15; coming from Brussels - Nivelles: A54 - exit 24; coming from Mons: E42 than A54 to Charleroi - exit 24.
