Heat, air and mass transfer in building material, building parts and whole buildings

A wide range of standardised or custom-built experimental setups are use to characterise:

  • Measurements of material properties (heat and moisture capacity and transfer properties, vapour permeability, airtightness, salt transport properties, microstructural properties).
  • Measurements of the performance of building parts under laboratory conditions (hot box-cold box).
  • Measurements of the performance analysis of building parts under climatological conditions (VLIET test building).

Energy performance of buildings and installations

  • Energy performance analysis of office buildings, residential buildings, etc.
  • Measurement of building air leaks and infrared thermography techniques.
  • Assessment of thermal comfort.
  • On-site measurements of the energy performance of existing buildings.

Urban physics

  • Studies of wind comfort in the built environment using numerical simulations (CFD).
  • Analysis of wind-driven rain load on building facades.

Acoustics

  • Testing of airborne and impact sound insulation in a ISO 140 transmission set-up and in-situ .
  • Quantifying sound absorption properties in a tube test set-up, in the reverberant room or in situ,.
  • Determination of sound intensity and sound power.
  • Measurement of room acoustical properties.
  • Binaural recording, subjective testing.
  • Acoustical quality analysis.
